Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Fans were treated to an old-fashioned pitchers' duel on Wednesday night in Pawtucket, RI as Thad Weber and William Cuevas each had their A+ stuff on the bump. However, it was the PawSox that would pull away in the last half of the ninth after a defensive blunder by the Toledo infield.

Weber was excellent all evening for Toledo, as he has been all season. The veteran shut down the PawSox offense with solid command of all four of his pitches. Through his first four frames, Weber retired the first twelve hitters he faced. Headed into the fifth with the no-hitter still in tact the right hander surrendered his first hit of the night, as Chris Dominguez sent a double over JaCoby Jones in center as the PawSox had a man in scoring position with no one out. Weber got Jantzen Witte to fly out the next at bat, sending Dominguez to third with one out. Pawtucket would be the first team on the board after Henry Ramos brought home Dominguez with a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead, Weber's only earned run of the night.

William Cuevas countered Weber's solid start with one of his own retiring six of the first seven hitters he faced. Cuevas kept the Toledo bats quiet until the sixth. After retiring Anthony Gose on a groundout, JaCoby Jones followed with a double to left field, putting himself in scoring position with one gone. Steven Moya followed the double and tied the game with an RBI single to right, allowing Jones to cross the plate and tie the score. The RBI was Moya's 34th of the season.

Cuevas' night came to a close after a stellar 8.0 innings pitched, in which he gave up the lone run on four hits with five strikeouts. Steven Moya led the Hens' offense with a 2-4 night at the plate with an RBI.

After throwing just 95 pitches through eight frames, Lloyd McClendon sent his bulldog back out for the ninth to take the game to extra innings tied at one. Weber followed by walking Ryan LaMarre to start the bottom of the ninth. With LaMarre at first, Weber came set against Justin Maxwell but balked in his motion allowing the runner to move up 90 feet into scoring position. In need of the first out, Weber was able to induce a fly out to center for out number one and proceeded to intentionally walk Chris Marrero in order to set up a double play with one gone. With runners on the corners, the right-hander got Chris Dominguez to hit a ball on the ground to third, which looked to be a routine double play. However, sure handed third baseman Casey McGehee was unable to handle the double play ball and LaMarre came around to score for the walk off win 2-1.

Thad Weber was tagged with the loss despite his valiant effort, throwing 8 1/3 innings allowing just two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

The two teams wrap up the four game set tomorrow morning with the first pitch slated for 11:05 AM.
