Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) earned their league-leading 10th shutout victory of the season on Wednesday night, blanking the Charlotte Knights 6-0 at PNC Field. The Knights (30-31) were held without a run for just the fifth time this season. The RailRiders improved to 5-3 against teams from the International League South Division and 33-27 overall.
Luis Severino (1-0) dazzled on the mound as he limited the Knights to three singles and one walk over six scoreless frames. He struck out seven and picked up his first victory of the year at any level. Jacob Turner (3-4) was hit hard in the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits across 5.2 innings.
Tyler Austin set the table in the second by mashing his second double in five games with SWB. Jake Cave drove a triple to center, his fourth with the RailRiders, and easily scored Austin. Kyle Higashioka plated Cave with a single that pushed the advantage to 2-0.
Austin's hot hitting continued in the third stanza. Ben Gamel reached on a fielding error by Carlos Sanchez at second and Aaron Judge worked a two-out walk. Austin belted his second homer in less than a week out to right. The three-run shot gave SWB a commanding 5-0 lead.
Higashioka completed the night's scoring with a double to left that drove in Cave from first base.
