Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - A quarter-century of baseball will be honored as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) return to PNC Field for an eight-game run against two non-divisional opponents. The schedule sports two separate throwback nights, highlighted by the induction of the franchise's all-time wins leader Dave Miley into the International League Hall of Fame.
The eight-game run at PNC Field begins Tuesday, June 3 when the RailRiders host the series opener against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles). SWB praises the past as Tuesday marks the third T-Shirt Tuesday of the campaign. The first 1,500 fans through the gates at PNC Field will receive a special edition "25th Anniversary" T-Shirt. Presenting media partners Bold Gold Media and WBRE television will be on hand to help celebrate NEPA's storied history. The game will be the first of the homestand's three telecasts on MyNetworkTV as John Sadak and Aaron Berlin have the call. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
The series against the Tides continues Wednesday, June 4 with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Wednesday's are synonymous with free goodies as Kids Eat Free on Wednesday's, courtesy of Minooka Subaru. Guests 12-and-under will receive coupon vouchers upon entry to PNC Field for one hot dog, a bag of Utz chips and a small Pepsi beverage provided by the RailRiders. KRZ will be in attendance for Wednesday's game.
The four-game set with Norfolk marches on with Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser and 80's night! Grab a cool beverage and enjoy $1 Bud Light and Pepsi products until up to two hours after gates open. Thursday marks the first of two throwback nights at PNC Field as fans are encouraged to break out their old Red Barons gear and rock the look that kickstarted NEPA's baseball tradition. Take in the soothing beats of Dashboard Mary and Rock 107 as the two help reignite the vibrant 1980s.
Relieve the past for the second-straight evening with 90's Night at PNC Field! The first leg of the homestand concludes Friday, June 6 as the RailRiders take a look back in time with Flashback Friday. That 90's Band rings in 1990s Night at the park, which means more than cool tunes as the RailRiders encourage fans to dress in their best Zubaz pants. The 25th Anniversary celebration of baseball in NEPA culminates Saturday, June 7 when Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's long-time skipper is formally inducted into the International League Hall of Fame. The RailRiders will honor Miley's accomplishments, immortalizing the veteran manager with a limited edition statue to be given away to the first 2,500 fans in the ballpark, courtesy of The Times-Tribune. See some of SWB's greats as the RailRiders honor the 1989 Red Barons squad on the field with a handful of pregame festivities geared towards the remembrance of a quarter-century of baseball in the region. Members of the inaugural squad on hand include Wally Ritchie, Tommy Barrett and Brad Moore, who will be available for autographs. SWB will sport limited-edition jerseys highlighting the three incarnations of the franchise in a one-of-kind garment to be auctioned off upon the conclusion of Saturday's festivities. The proceeds following the auction will benefit the Dave Miley Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund. The RailRiders' pregame band Two for the Road welcomes you to the park while colleague 97.9 helps out. The series opener against Toledo (Detroit Tigers) marks the second telecast of the homestand as Sadak and Berlin slide over to the TV booth and bring you the anniversary game on MyNetworkTV. The 25-year celebration comes to a close in the form of fireworks as the RailRiders finish the night with an extravaganza presented by Jack Williams Tire and Auto and Kumho Tire.
SWB follows Saturday's grand gesture with game two of four against the Mud Hens. Sunday means a matinee with a 1:05 p.m. start time. It's Family FunDay at the park thanks to NEPA Honda Dealers. Fans have the opportunity to receive autographs prior to first pitch while kids are encouraged to stay after the conclusion of the game and run the same bases the RailRiders circle. Sunday's game is the final televised game of the homestand on MyNetworkTV while local stations WNEP-TV and Magic 93 will also be on hand throughout the day.
The eight-game run at PNC continues with Youth Softball night at the ballpark. Bring your daughter's youth softball team or league out to Monday night's game against the Mud Hens for some good hearty fun. Monday also marks Dollar Dog Days as hot dogs are just a dollar at all concession stands. Local media partner Froggy 101 joins us at the field as they welcome fans through the entry plaza.
The homestand bookends with the second of two T-Shirt Tuesday promotions. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive the unique "I Love SWB RailRiders" T-Shirt, emblazoned with a heart that truly signifies what baseball means in NEPA. Bold Gold Media and Eyewitness News will be on hand to great each fan as they pass through the gates at the park.
