Chris Marrero homered and Kevin Gausman struck out seven, but Allen Webster turned in a strong outing to pitch the Pawtucket Red Sox past the Tides 7-2 in front of 6,724 fans Friday night at Harbor Park.

Webster (3-2) yielded just three hits over eight innings to help give the Pawsox the victory in the opener of the four-game set. He walked one and struck out seven, with the only run against him coming on an opposite field solo homer by Marrero in the seventh inning.

Norfolk trailed the contest 3-1 entering the eighth inning before Pawtucket plated four runs (two earned) on three hits and two Tides errors.

Gausman (1-3) struck out a season-high seven batters over four frames but took the loss after yielding a two-run home run to Corey Brown in the first inning. Gausman allowed three hits and walked two in the outing as he threw 48 of his 82 pitches for strikes.

Over his last six starts with Norfolk, Gausman has now gone 1-2 with a 1.52 ERA (5 ER, 29.2 IP), 22 hits, nine walks and 31 strikeouts. Over that six-start stretch, opponents have scored in just two innings against the 23-year-old, as they plated four runs in the fifth inning on May 20 at Charlotte before scoring two runs in the first frame Friday.

With the win, Pawtucket (28-28) improved to .500 on the season while the Tides (20-35) lost for the fifth time in six games.

The two teams will continue their four-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Suk-min Yoon (1-5, 6.32) will make the start for Norfolk against rehabbing knuckleballer Steven Wright (NR). Saturday is Teacher Appreciation Night, presented by The Real Estate Group and Cox Communications. There will also be a fireworks celebration following the game.
