ALLENTOWN, P.A. - Despite trailing 5-1 through three innings, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (72-62) came from behind and scored eight unanswered runs to beat the Worcester Red Sox (69-65) by a 9-5 final on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The IronPigs scored the game's first run when Darick Hall hit a solo homer to the opposite-field in the first inning.
In the third, the WooSox scored five runs. The rally began when Deivy Grullon doubled to left. Grullon scored on an RBI double from Nick Sogard. Three batters later, Enmanuel Valdez singled home Sogard to put Worcester on top 2-1. With two runners aboard, Johan Mieses blasted a three-run homer to left to give the WooSox a 5-1 lead.
In the fourth, after Josh Winckowski got the first two outs, seven straight IronPigs reached, leading to six Lehigh Valley runs to put them back on top 7-5.
The IronPigs tacked on two more runs in the seventh, with one coming on Hall's second homer of the night.
Winckowski got the start and tossed 3.2 innings. He allowed seven runs (six unearned) and struck out five while walking two.
After missing the last three games, Valdez, the reigning International League Player of the Week, went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his return.
The WooSox wrap up their six-game series with the IronPigs tomorrow afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. Bryan Mata is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage begins at 1:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
