Syracuse Mets News Release
Pawtucket, RI - The Syracuse Mets lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox, 4-2, on Saturday night at McCoy Stadium. Rubén Tejada had a double, an RBI, and scored a run for the Mets in the game.
Pawtucket (22-31) scored first in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, both Bryce Brentz and Gorkys Hernandez walked, putting runners at first and second base. Juan Centeno followed with a single into right field that scored Brentz from second for a 1-0 Red Sox lead. Cole Sturgeon followed with another single that brought home Hernandez to extend the Pawtucket advantage to 2-0.
The Red Sox added two more runs in the third. With Jantzen Witte at third base and Rusney Castillo at second, a wild pitch scored Witte to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Hernandez then singled home Castillo from third to give the PawSox a 4-0 edge.
Syracuse (28-26) got on the board in the top of the fourth. Tejada led off with a double. Two batters later, Matt Kemp singled, placing runners at first and third. Danny Espinosa followed with a single into right field that scored Tejada to trim the Pawtucket lead to three, 4-1.
The Mets pulled closer in the fifth. With one out, Tim Tebow singled. Rajai Davis followed with a single to center field, and both Tebow and Davis moved up a base because of a fielding error on Hernandez in center, putting runners at second and third. Tejada then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Tebow from third to cut the Red Sox advantage to two, 4-2.
That's as close as Syracuse would get though, as neither team scored the rest of the game.
Syracuse and Pawtucket finish off their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Chris Flexen is scheduled to throw for the Mets opposite LHP Dedgar Jimenez for the Red Sox. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
