
Mercedes, Big Offense Give Snappers 8-4 Win

Burlington, IA - The Beloit Snappers (54-51) split their four-game series with the Burlington Bees (41-62) with an 8-4 Tuesday night win at Community Field.
In his first game since being called up on June 30th, Snappers third baseman Miguel Mercedes blasted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to extend the Snappers lead to 5-1.
Mercedes notched three hits, tying his season high this season as a Snapper. Mercedes had played in eight games with the Athletics Arizona League Rookie level team prior to his call up. Mercedes was put on the disabled list on May 11th and went to Arizona.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Nick Allen tied the game on a sac fly. Logan Farrar singled home Austin Beck in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.
In the eighth leading 5-4, the Snappers tacked on three insurance runs capped off by a two-run double by Jesus Lage.
Snappers starter Mitchell Jordan went five strong innings of four-hit ball and surrendered just one run with five strikeouts. Jordan earned his second straight win and hasn't earned a loss since June 28th.
In the seventh inning with Seth Martinez pitching, Bees Alexis Olmeda hit a three-run homer to cut the Snappers lead to 5-4 and was his second homer of the game.
Jesus Zambrano would come on and pitch two scoreless innings and earned a hold, extending his consecutive scoreless innings to 20.2.
Joseph Camacho would come in with one out in the ninth and the bases loaded in relief of Jaimito Lebron, getting Kevin Williams Jr. to fly out to left for the second out. Lazaro Armenteros doubled off Tori Hunter Jr. at second for the final out on a 7-4 double play to end the game.
Olmeda cracked his first homer of the game in the third, a solo shot to take a 1-0 lead. With the comeback win, the Snappers moved to 20-37 on the season when the opponent scores first.
For the Snappers, they finished with 10 hits as a team. It's the 11th time in the last 19 games they have hit the 10 or more mark in hits. Overall, the Snappers have now won 17 of their last 24 games and five of their last eight series.
The Snappers will return home Wednesday and begin a three-game series with the Kane County Cougars, starting at 7:00. Starting on the mound for the Snappers will be left-hander Jared Poché (7-6, 4.17).
