Great Lakes Loons News Release

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Deacon Liput hit two home runs and drove in all three of the Loons' tallies in a 3-2 series-clinching win over the Lake County Captains at rainy Classic Park on Tuesday.

Liput, 22, is the second Loon with a multi-home run game in 2018 (Starling Heredia on May 17 vs. Bowling Green). The former Florida Gator has swatted four home runs in 15 games with the Loons and batted 11-for-24 in six games on the road trip with five extra-base hits and seven RBI.

A National Champion at Florida in 2017, Liput's first home run was an opposite-drive to left just two batters into the game to put the Loons out to an early 2-0 lead. After Lake County rallied to a 2-2 tie by the end of the third inning, Liput's solo shot to right-center in the seventh inning proved to be the decisive play of the game.

Lake County slugger Will Benson hit a solo home run in the second inning off Loons' starter Gerardo Carrillo, who allowed two runs on five hits over five innings with one walk and four strikeouts. The bullpen once again served the Loons well: lefty Austin Drury made his debut after a call-up from Rookie-Advanced Ogden and secured the win. Drury threw two innings and allowed one hit and one walk with two punch-outs. Jasiel Alvino saved his fourth contest in as many opportunities (all in July) and threw an identical line to Drury.

The Loons concluded a 5-2 road trip winners of 10-of-13 on the road and playing their best baseball of the season. In particular, the staff pitched to a 2.93 ERA over 28 games in July and fanned over nine batters per game.

A six-game homestand begins Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. EDT against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers).

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
