Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Davenport, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels six-run fourth inning was too much to overcome as the Quad Cities River Bandits dropped an 8-1 decision to their in-state rivals on Tuesday at Modern Woodmen Park. The teams split a four-game home-and-home series with the road team winning every game.

The game was scoreless after three innings, but that changed in a big way in the top of the fourth. Cedar Rapids pounded out six hits, three of them of the extra-base variety, on their way to building a 6-0 advantage. Jose Miranda continued his big series by starting the scoring with an RBI single. Jacob Pearson and Michael Davis each added two-RBI doubles to push the lead to 5-0. Before the frame ended, the ninth batter of the inning, Gabriel Maciel, lined a run-scoring single into center field to put the finishing touches on the frame.

The River Bandits plated their only run of the night in the bottom of the same inning. Chandler Taylor worked a full count against Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Edwar Colina and then teed off on a fastball for his fourth home run of the campaign. The 460-foot home run was the longest measured blast at Modern Woodmen Park this season.

The Kernels built back the lead to the final margin of 8-1 on the strength of back-to-back home runs from Miranda and Ryan Jeffers in the fifth inning. The long ball was Miranda's 13th of the season, while Jeffers launched his second with the Kernels.

The Kernels pounded out 11 hits to the Bandits five. Jeffers led all players with three hits and finished 7-9 with two runs and four doubles in the two games in Davenport. Marty Costes was the only member of the Bandits with multiple hits, finishing 2-3 and reaching base three times in the game.

Leovanny Rodriguez took the loss as he was chased after 3.2 innings. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits. Hansel Paulino made his River Bandits debut by working 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and surrendering two runs on three hits. He allowed both home runs in the fifth inning. Tanner Duncan pitched the final 2.0 innings and retired all six hitters he faced.

The River Bandits (19-18, 59-48) continue their homestand with a new series against the Clinton Lumberkings (19-18, 58-49) on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The Bandits will turn to RHP Jairo Solis (1-4, 3.67) in a match-up with LumberKings LHP Ray Kerr (3-9, 4.15).

All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
