Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Kane County Cougars Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to beat the Cougars.
Kane County (53-53 overall, 18-19 second half) had the lead two batters into the game. Tra Holmes doubled on the second pitch of the game. Yoel Yanqui singled to center on the fourth pitch of the game and Holmes scored for a 1-0 lead.
Both teams squandered bases-loaded opportunities early in the game. The Cougars had a runner on every base with one out in the top of the second, but could not add on. The Rattlers loaded the bases with two outs in the third, but left them that way when the inning ended.
Payton Henry brought the Rattlers (48-58, 17-20) back to even in the bottom on the fourth inning with an RBI single to drive in Gilbert Lara from second base.
The Cougars went back in front in the top of the sixth. Jose Caballero and Tim Susnara had back-to-back doubles to go up 2-1. A single by Eudy Ramos put runners at the corners to chase starting pitcher Nelson Hernández from the game.
Clayton Andrews entered the game in relief of Hernández and struck out the next two batters to keep the deficit at one run.
The Rattlers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kenny Corey and Henry had consecutive singles with one out, but Corey was still at second and Henry still at first with one out. That set the stage for Darren Seferina, who lined a single to eight to score Corey with the tying run.
Andrews would strike out two batters in the seventh as he pitched around a one-out walk. Then, he struck out two more Cougars while working a 1-2-3 eighth to keep the game tied.
Wisconsin grabbed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Eddie Silva, who joined the Timber Rattlers from Helena earlier today, doubled to start the inning. Corey sent a single back through the middle with one out to send Silva home with the go-ahead run. Seferina added an insurance run later in the inning with a two-out RBI single to send Corey home for a 4-2 lead.
Rodrigo Benoit pitched around a one-out walk in the top of the ninth for a scoreless ninth inning to earn his tenth save of the season.
The win allowed the Rattlers to earn a split in the four-game series with the Cougars. It also gave the Rattlers a 14-13 record in the month of July.
Wisconsin hosts Burlington in the first game of a three-game series on Wednesday night to start the month of August. Bowden Francis (5-7, 4.66) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Bees have named Michael Santos (2-1, 3.69) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm.
The first 500 fans to attend this game will receive a magnet featuring former Timber Rattlers shortstop Orlando Arcia from Lamers Bus Lines. All fans may enjoy Cher-Make hotdogs and Pepsi products for $1. Fans 21 and older may purchase 12-ounce domestic beers for $1. This is a part of Bang for Your Buck Night at the ballpark with Y100!
