Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today that goalie Mike McKenna and defenseman Tyler Sloan have been added to the roster after stints in the American Hockey League. Both players are expected to play in Victoria on Wednesday night.
McKenna rejoins the Wranglers after leaving the team on January 22nd to sign with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. McKenna appeared in seven games with Norfolk, going 4-2-1 with a 3.86 goals against average and a .883 save percentage. The rookie netminder was named to the ECHL's National Conference All-Star Team in early January, but could not participate in the game due to his AHL signing. The St. Louis, MO native was named ECHL Rookie of the Month for the month of December.
Prior to his recall, McKenna posted a 12-1-1 record, with a 2.27 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 17 appearances with Las Vegas this year. After losing his first start of the season in November, McKenna posted a ten-game unbeaten in regulation streak (9-0-1).
McKenna participated in the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights training camp in 2005. The 22-year old was selected by the Nashville Predators in the Sixth Round (#172 Overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. McKenna played four seasons at St. Lawrence University going 32-44-8 with a 2.85 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
Tyler Sloan returns after playing in one game with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. The 24-year old has played in three games this season in two stints with the Moose. He did not register a point in any of his AHL games this season. The Calgary, AB native has played in 33 games so far this season with the Wranglers, collecting three goals and 13 assists for 16 points and 58 penalty minutes. Sloan is third among all Las Vegas defensemen with a +15. In his four-year pro career, Sloan has played in 127 career games in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch and Moose, where he has scored four goals and added seven assists for 11 points, while amassing 119 penalty minutes. In 90 career games in the ECHL with Las Vegas and the Dayton Bombers, Sloan has scored 10 goals and totaled 36 points to go along with 164 penalty minutes.
The Wranglers continue their season-long, nine-game road trip with three games in Victoria on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The Wranglers stop in Phoenix before returning home on March 17th to host the Alaska Aces for a three-game series. On Friday March 17th, the Wranglers will wear specialty jerseys for St. Patrick's Day. The jerseys, sponsored by McMullan's Irish Pub, the official Irish Pub of the Las Vegas Wranglers, will be available for purchase through a silent auction on the concourse during the game.
