
Gladiators' Awe Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Gwinnett rookie defenseman Jon Awe is the In Glas
Co ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 26-Mar. 5. He becomes the fifth
different Gladiators player to win the award in 2005-06.
The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound defenseman had a team-leading five goals, six
points and a plus-minus rating of +7 as the Gladiators went 4-0-0 to
improve to 39-11-7 and 85 points, clinching a berth in the Kelly Cup
Playoffs while extending their lead in the South Division and the American
Conference.
The 25-year-old opened the week scoring two goals in a 3-2 win at Pensacola
on Feb. 28 and recorded his first professional hat trick, including a pair
of power-play goals, in a 6-3 win against Pensacola on Mar. 4. He closed
out the week with an assist on a power-play goal in Gwinnett's 5-1 win
against Pensacola on Mar. 5.
Awe has six goals and seven points during Gwinnett's current five-game
winning streak and has registered a point in four of the five contests. He
leads Gladiators defensemen with six power-play goals and he has 18 points
(9g-9a) and a plus-minus rating of +14 in 34 games. He has also played in
the American Hockey League where he has one assist and eight penalty
minutes in 17 games with Portland while also playing one game with
Providence.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Awe spent four seasons at Northeastern
University where he scored 32 points (6g-26a) in 111 games and helped the
Huskies to the Beanpot Tournament finals in 2002 and 2005.
On behalf of Jon Awe, a case of pucks will be donated to a Gwinnett, Ga.
area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck
supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 14,000 pucks to
youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the
award in 2000-01.
