Ice Pilots Trick Stingrays

Pensacola, FL - The Ice Pilots got out to an early lead and held on for a 4-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The win ends a seven game losing streak for Pensacola.

The Ice Pilots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Jan Steber scored at 5:03 of the first period. Eric Braff assisted on the goal. Shaun Landolt gave Pensacola a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at the 11:27 mark of the opening period. Adam Courchaine got the assist, as the Ice Pilots would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Just as it looked like the Ice Pilots were taking control of the game, Cam McCaffrey scored a short-handed goal to put South Carolina on the board at 2:34 of the second. Matt Reid got the assist. Pensacola would again extend to a two goal lead, as Brendan Cook scored his 19th goal of the season at the 15:14 mark of the second period. The Stingrays, however, would take momentum into the third period as Likit Andersson scored to make it 3-2 with 22 seconds left in the period. Eric Labelle and Robin Gomez assisted on the goal.

Chris Trick, playing in his first game with the Ice Pilots, scored at 5:59 of the third period to give Pensacola a 4-2 lead. Adam Courchaine got his second assist of the game as the Ice Pilots again took a two goal lead. Dallas Steward also assisted on the goal. The Stingrays, however, would not go away, as Evan Schwabe took a cross ice pass from Trevor Johnson, and scored on the power play to cut the lead to 4-3 at 9:31 of the period. Matt Reid recorded his second assist of the game. South Carolina continued to put pressure on Ice Pilots Goalie David Cann, outshooting Pensacola 12-1 in the period, and pulling their goalie with 1:08 left in the game. Cann, however, stood tall as the Ice Pilots came away with a 4-3 victory.

Cann made 28 saves for Pensacola, improving his record to 2-9-2. Davis Parley made 22 saves for the Stingrays, but took the loss, dropping him to 11-10-2. The win makes Pensacola 18-34-6 (42 points), while South Carolina drops to 24-21-11 (59 points).

The Ice Pilots continue their road trip tomorrow night as they travel to Augusta to take on the Lynx at 6:05 PM. They return to South Carolina to face the Stingrays on March 10th and 11th. The trip concludes with games at Augusta on March 12th and at Greenville on March 14th. Their next home games are against South Carolina on March 17th and 18th. Both games start at 7:05 PM.
