SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced that former
Florida Everblades and current Lowell Lock Monsters center Keith
Aucoin has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week.
Aucoin becomes the second former ECHL player in a row to win the award as
former Las Vegas and current Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights goaltender Brent
Krahn was the recipient last week. In addition to Aucoin and Krahn,
former ECHL players to win the AHL weekly award in 2005-06 are Mike
Ayers (Dayton and Syracuse), Brian Finley (Toledo and
Milwaukee), Jamie Holden (Fresno and Cleveland), Lawrence
Nycholat (Jackson and Hershey) and Nathan Robinson (Toledo and
Providence).
The ECHL has affiliations with 21 of the 27 teams in the AHL and for the
past 16 years there has been a former ECHL player on the AHL team that has
won the Calder Cup. The Everblades are the ECHL affiliate of the Lock
Monsters.
Aucoin scored two goals and added four assists as the Lock Monsters posted
a pair of wins. After ending the previous week with a four-point effort,
Aucoin scored two goals and assisted on another, all in the first period,
of a 5-3 win against Norfolk on Saturday and then he assisted on three
goals in a 6-0 win against Albany on Sunday. He is fourth in the AHL with
47 assists and tied for fifth with 70 points and was chosen to play in the
Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic.
Aucoin had two assists in one game with the Everblades in 2001-02 before
being called up to Lowell where he had 16 points (6g-10a) in 30 games. His
brother, Phil, is currently playing for the Everblades and has 34 points
(15g-19a) and 52 penalty minutes in 50 games after beginning the season
with Charlotte where he had three points (1g-2a) in four games.
Other former ECHL players nominated for the award included former Charlotte
and current Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard, former Charlotte and
current Hershey left wing Boyd Kane, former Jackson and current
Providence left wing Eric Healey, former Charlotte and current San
Antonio center Layne Ulmer and former Pensacola and current Toronto
left wing Kris Newbury.
