Augusta Lynx News Release

Lynx This Week

Lundberg Recalled To Albany Lynx defenseman Eric Lundberg has been recalled to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League for the second time this season. The 22-year-old defenseman heads to the River Rats for the second time this season, appearing in 12 games with no points and a +3 rating last time around. Lundberg has also seen time in the AHL this season with the Syracuse Crunch, totaling two games there with an even rating.

Whitwell Re-Signs To fill the hole created by the recall of Lundberg to the AHL, the Lynx have re-signed defenseman John Whitwell. A perennial fan favorite who retired after the 2001-02 season as the Lynx all-time leader in games played, the Niagara Falls, Ont. native returned to the team this year for two separate stints, totaling four games with one assist and 10 minutes in penalties. Whitwell also served as assistant coach for the club during the 2002-03 season as well. He will be in the lineup on Wednesday night when the Lynx face Pensacola.

Week In Review Saturday, March 4 - Augusta Lynx 2 @ Columbia Inferno 5

The Lynx fell behind 3-0 early in the second period but thanks to two Brian Passmore tallies trailed by just a goal at 14:04 of the middle frame. Shortly thereafter, however, Columbia took their two-goal lead back and followed with an insurance marker in the third period for a 5-2 win. Jason Wolfe stopped 34 shots in taking the loss for the Lynx, who are five points in front of Columbia with three games in hand over the Inferno.

What's Next Wednesday, March 8 vs. Pensacola Ice Pilots - 7:35 pm

Sunday, March 12 vs. Pensacola Ice Pilots - 4:05 pm

Augusta will have a chance to shut the door on the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Wednesday and Sunday as the team plays their first two home games since February 18. The Ice Pilots have been struggling in their last ten games, posting a 1-8-1 record over that stretch and sliding 12 points out of the sixth and final playoff spot occupied by Augusta. The Ice Pilots are 8-16-4 on the road this season and have lost their last seven games in a row heading into Wednesday night.

Friday, March 10 @ Greenville Grrrowl - 7:05 pm Saturday, March 11 @ Greenville Grrrowl - 2:05 pm

Sitting firmly in third place in the ECHL's American Conference Southern Division, the Grrrowl host Augusta for just the second and third times this season with this weekend series. Greenville is close to wrapping up a playoff spot and may already have a post-season berth in the bag when they meet Augusta on Friday night. For the Lynx, meanwhile, their attempt to reach fourth place gains even more importance in light of the fact that the team that finishes sixth will most likely face Greenville or Florida in the first round. The Lynx and Grrrowl will meet four more times this year including this weekend, three of which are in Greenville.
