Nailers' Franck Named Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Andy Franck of the Wheeling Nailers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 27-Mar. 5.

The 24-year-old Franck was 1-0-1 with a shutout, a 0.48 goals against average and a save percentage of .986 as the Nailers went 1-0-1 to improve to 33-17-5 and remain in second place in the North Division with 71 points. The Nailers return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the fourth time after missing the postseason a year ago.

The 6-foot-1 and 183-pound rookie began the week stopping all 35 shots in a 1-0 shootout loss to Greenville on Mar. 3, picking up his third professional shutout. He repeated his 35-save performance against Toledo on Mar. 5 to pick up a 2-1 win.

Under contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, Franck is 22-12-4 and is tied for third in the ECHL with goals-against average of 2.26 while ranking fourth in minutes with 2,313 and fifth in wins. He was selected to the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game and stopped seven of eight shots faced in the second period for the American Conference.

The Lakewood, Ohio native played three seasons at Mercyhurst College from 2002-05, finishing with a 43-26-5 record, a 3.12 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904. He played in the United States Hockey League with Sioux City in 2001-02 and was 25-10-1 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.50 and a save percentage of .920 in 38 regular season games.

Runners Up: Matt Underhill, Alaska (3-0-0, 0.98 GAA, .960 save pct.), Tyler Weiman, San Diego (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .953 save pct.).
