Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC-- Daniel McGrath had made one prior start this season against the Tourists. Back on May 20, Greenville's lefty pitched six innings and surrendered only one hit in an 11-1 Drive win. On Monday night, the first time the Tourists and the Drive faced each other since then, McGrath was at it again. He helped lead the visitors to a 14-6 win over the Tourists.
McGrath did not allow a hit until Jose Briceno's fifth inning double and the only run he surrendered came on a lead-off Home Run by Correlle Prime in the seventh. By the time Prime left the yard to deep center, Greenville was already ahead 14-0.
Johendi Jiminian allowed a pair of runs in the second inning before the floodgates opened in the third. After Jiminian retired the first batter of the inning, he surrendered six straight hits. After a strikeout, Aneudis Peralta singled in a run and chased the Tourists starter from the game. By the time the top of the third was over the Drive held an 8-0 advantage.
The visitors added five more in the sixth. Three straight RBI base hits from Tim Roberson, Carlos Asuaje, and Kendrick Perkins made it 11-0 and Jake Romanski's two-run double later in the frame kicked the lead to 13-0.
The Tourists did show some life in the bottom of the ninth. Briceno blasted a three-run bomb down the left field line and Max White added a two-run homer to right-center. Unfortunately the hole was too deep to overcome.
Romanski finished with three hits and five RBI while Peralta had four hits on the evening. In total, Greenville tallied 20 hits. The Tourists consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak was snapped at 23 when in the second inning Romanski grounded out to score Asuaje for the game's first run.
Asheville will look to respond on Tuesday night as the same two teams take the field at 7:05pm.
