Suns Take Series Opener, 3-1

(HAGERSTOWN, Md.) The Hagerstown Suns scored all three of their runs on four straight hits in the sixth inning and went on to a 3-1 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night.

The Legends scored in a run in the third inning. Alfredo Escalera led off with a walk, but was forced out at second on a grounder hit by Ramon Torres. Frank Schwindel then lined a double down the left field line, scoring Torres.

Legends starter Luis Rico pitched five shutout innings, but the Suns got to reliever Pedro Fernandez in the sixth. With one out, Wilmer Difo singled and Isaac Ballou homered, putting Hagerstown ahead 2-1.

Back-to-back doubles by Carlos Lopez and Drew Ward followed, giving the Suns their 3-1 margin.

Andrew Cooper (5-1), who relieved Hagerstown starter Brett Mooneyham at the start of the fifth inning, got the win. He pitched three scoreless innings and allowed four hits.

Fernandez (0-4) was the losing pitcher.

The series continues Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
