
GreenJackets Beat Braves in First Game of Series

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (35-38) won their first game, in the second half of the season, Monday night against the Rome Braves (24-51). The final score was 7-5. After a tough series against the Asheville Tourists, the GreenJackets had an explosive night offensively, the team recorded 11 hits.
Rome scored their five runs in the first five innings. They drove in their first run in the first inning on a ground out by Jake Schrader. The team scored another run again in the third inning on a wild pitch. In the fourth inning, the Braves drove in two runs both on a fielding error by GreenJackets Jeremy Sy. Carlos Franco drove in the team's final run on a sacrifice fly to right field.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Augusta's offense came alive and scored four runs. Brandon Bednar began the inning with a single to center field and then stole second on a wild pitch. Gabriel Cornier singled to left-center field which drove in the first run. After Eric Sim walked, Cristian Paulino was hit by a pitch. Chris Lofton singled to right field allowing both Sim and Cornier to score. Cristian Paulino plated the fourth run on a ground out by Rando Moreno.
The GreenJackets scored their final three runs in the bottom of the seventh. After Jeremy Sy walked, Tyler Horan doubled to left field. A single by Brandon Bednar allowed Sy to score and Horan was out at the plate. Ty Ross singled deep to second drove in the second run of the inning. Eric Sim doubled through the hole at shortstop which let Ross plate the final run.
Carlos Alvarado earned his fourth win of the season. The relief pitcher came into the game in the fifth inning, pitched four complete innings and gave up one hit. Alvarado struck out four and now has an ERA of 2.25.
