Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - The Greenville Drive (3-2, 37-37) offense has been firing on all cylinders since the beginning of the second half, and they showed no signs of slowing down on Monday night, pounding out 20 hits in a 14-6 victory over the Asheville Tourists (4-1, 45-29).
The Drive never trailed in the series opener, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to an RBI groundout by Jake Romanski and an RBI groundout by Zach Kapstein and scoring six more times in the third to pull away.
The third-inning explosion began with Tim Roberson's RBI single to score Tzu-Wei Lin, who singled and stole second.
With the bases loaded later in the inning, Asheville starter Johendi Jiminian (8-4) uncorked a wild pitch to make the score 4-0. Manuel Margot followed with an RBI single, and Romanski then laced a two-run double to left. Aneudis Peralta capped the big frame with an RBI single of his own.
Drive starter Daniel McGrath (3-3) certainly appreciated the run support, but he didn't need much on this night, as he allowed just one run on four hits and one walk in six and one-third innings with five strikeouts.
For good measure, Greenville scored five times in the sixth and once more in the seventh. Romanski doubled home two more as part of the sixth, while Roberson and Carlos Asuaje singled home runs and Perkins plated another with a double. A double-play in the seventh brought home the Drive's final run.
Asheville scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a three-run homer by Jose Briceno and a two-run homer by Max White.
Peralta had four hits for the Drive, while Romanski collected three hits and drove in five runs. Asuaje had three hits of his own, and Lin, Margot, Perkins and Roberson chipped in with two hits apiece.
The series continues at 7:05 on Tuesday night. The Drive will send RH Jamie Callahan (2-6, 6.60) to the mound, and the Tourists will counter with RH Zach Jemiola (5-7, 5.86).
