Shorebirds Game Notes vs. West Virginia

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds started the second half with series victory, winning 10-2 in the finale on Sunday evening. Delmarva scored six runs in the third inning, another good showing of run support for Luis Gonzalez. The left-hander did enough to limit Lexington and improve to 2-0 in the blowout win. Delmarva now plays host to the West Virginia Power for four games.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Dovydas Neverauskas will start the series opener for the West Virginia Power on Sunday. Neverauskas has lost his last four decisions, dropping to 3-5 with a 6.55 ERA in 13 starts. The right-hander has not recorded a win since he beat Delmarva on May 18th. The na- tive of Lithuania lost his last start vs. Delmarva, giving up eight runs in 1 2/3 innings. The Pirates signed Neverauskas as an international free agent all the way back in 2009.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles pummeled the New York Yankees for a 8-0 victory and a series win in the Bronx. Former 2011 Delmarva Shorebird Jonathan Schoop hit a solo home run off Masahiro Tanaka, his 6th home run of the season. Caleb Joseph hit his first MLB career home run in the victory. The O's are now 39-35, in a tie for 2nd place in the AL East.

THE IRON IS HOT: 18 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

In the final game of the first half, Bierfeldt his a two-run home run at West Virginia. The Shore- birds outfielder now has seven home runs on the season, second on the team behind only Mike Yastrzemski (10). Despite hitting just .204, Bierfeldt is also second on the team in doubles with 15, and second with 24 walks drawn.

WHO'S HOT - JON KELLER

The Shorebirds reliever has been a key part of the impressive Delmarva bullpen. Since allowing five runs in his first 4 appearances, Keller has given up just two runs in his last 14 outings.

WHO ELSE - CHANCE SISCO

The Shorebirds catcher has been on a tear lately, raising his batting average to .310. Be- fore Saturday evening, Sisco had a six-game hitting streak with three multi-hit games just before the All-Star Break.
