Hagerstown Suns News Release

About last series... The Hagerstown Suns (3-1, 47-27) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the ninth on Sunday, and then held on for a 4-3 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (1-3, 45-29). The win gave the Suns a 3-1 victory in the four-game series with the Grasshoppers, and evens up Hagerstown's record against Greensboro this season to 4-4.

It was CF Narciso Mesa who drove in 2B Willie Medina for the winning run with a groundout to short. Medina had reached to leadoff the inning on a bunt base hit, and he moved into scoring position thanks to a sacrifice bunt. LHP Joseph Webb (3-1) tossed one scoreless inning in relief for Hagerstown to earn the win. LHP Jake Walsh picked up the save by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth, and RHP Esmerling De La Rosa (1-1) suffered the loss for Greensboro. He allowed just the one run in one inning of work.

The only Grasshoppers win of the series came in game three of the series on Saturday night, when Greensboro came back from a 3-0 deficit to record an 8-4 win. The Grasshoppers took the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI single by DH Austin Dean. Dean finished the game with two hits and two runs driven in, one of three Grasshoppers to finish with a multi-hit and multi-RBI game. Starting LHP Jarlin Garcia (7-2) picked up the win for Greensboro. He went seven innings, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits while striking out seven. Starting RHP Lucas Giolito (2-2) suffered the loss for Hagerstown. Giolito pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two. Two of the six hits he allowed were homers.

In the second game of the series on Friday night, three Suns pitchers combined to one-hit the Grasshoopers, as Hagerstown won 9-1. RHP Nick Pivetta (9-3) got the start and win for the Suns, tossing six hitless innings and allowing just one unearned run on one walk while striking out two. Starting RHP Ryan Newell (7-5) took the loss for Greensboro. He pitched five innings, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out three. Two of the 10 hits he allowed were homers, and in total Hagerstown had three homers in the game as it was their second straight multi-homerun contest.

In game one of the series on Thursday night the Suns pounded out 15 hits (they did so in game two on Friday as well) en route to an 11-6 win. The 15 hits are tied for the second most Hagerstown has had in a game this season, and two of the 15 hits were homers, making it the first multi-homer game since May 20th . It was 1B Jimmy Yezzo and 3B Drew Ward who went long, while starting LHP Hector Silvestre (3-4) tossed seven innings to earn the win. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and one walk. Starting LHP Sean Townsley (1-2) suffered the loss for Greensboro. He pitched 4.1 innings, surrendering five earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two.

In total Hagerstown outscored Greensboro 28-18 over the course of the series, and the Suns out- hit the Grasshoppers 50-28.

On the Mound... LHP Brett Mooneyham will be heading to the hill this evening for the Suns. He is making his first start and appearance this season with Hagerstown. In 33.0 innings with Potomac Mooneyham allowed 33 runs (27 earned) on 35 hits including two homers. He walked 35 and struck out 18. Tonight he goes up against LHP Luis Rico for Lexington. Rico is making his eighth start and 14th appearance this year for the Legends. He last pitched on June 11 in relief at home against Asheville, tossing three innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out one. His last start came on June 6 at Augusta, when he pitched five innings and gave up two unearned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.
