Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Denton Mateychuk completed the comeback for the Moose Jaw Warriors, scoring in overtime to finish off a 3-2 win over the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Saturday night.

Mateychuk recovered his own rebound, regrouped and rifled a wrist shot into the net with 2:19 left in the three-on-three overtime period.

It was the 17-year-old defenceman's fifth goal of the season.

The Warriors tied the game with 2:32 remaining in regulation on fellow 17-year-old Jagger Firkus' seventh goal of the season and his fourth in the past two games.

Mateychuk set up Firkus' game-tying goal to finish with a goal and two points in the win, while Brayden Yager had two assists in the win.

Ryder Korczak opened the scoring for the Warriors 3:28 into the game, but the Tigers stifled Moose Jaw's attack after that.

Ashton Ferster scored late in the first period to tie the game up at 1-1 after 20 and then Noah Danielson scored a power play goal 3:00 into the second period to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead that would hold for the next 34 minutes.

Warriors goalie Carl Tetachuk made some big saves over those 34 minutes to keep his team within one. The 20-year-old netminder finished with 24 saves in the win.

Moose Jaw outshot Medicine Hat 35-26 in the game, including 11-8 in the third and 3-1 in overtime.

The Warriors finished 0-for-2 on the power play and went 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The win gives Moose Jaw a sweep of its two-game road trip to the Central Division.

The Warriors will return to Mosaic Place coming up on Tuesday night when they play host to the Red Deer Rebels. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
