Raiders Hand Blades Second Straight Loss to Finish Home-And-Home

Saskatoon Blades News Release

SASKATOON, SK - Tristen Robins extended his league-lead in points, scoring a goal for his 23rd point of the campaign, but it wasn't enough as the Saskatoon Blades fell for a second straight night to the Prince Albert Raiders 5-2 on Saturday at SaskTel Centre.

Raiders forward Sloan Stanick scored his first career hat-trick, and teammate Tyson Laventure lit the lamp twice to help Prince Albert extend its winning streak to three games.

It's the second straight loss for Saskatoon to their Highway 11 Rivals, following up a 5-1 decision at the Art Hauser Centre on Friday.

Egor Sidorov also scored for the Blue & Gold, who slip to 9-4-1-0 and remain firmly in second place in the Eastern Division. They'll look to return to the win column on Tuesday, hosting the Central Division's first-place team, the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Ethan Chadwick takes the loss in game two of the home-and-home series, stopping nine of 12 shots. This is the first loss of the season for the local product, now standing with a record of 2-1-0-0. Nolan Maier took over for Chadwick late in the second period and allowed two goals on 18 shots.

Sloan Stanick and Tyson Laventure's combined seven points to lead Prince Albert to a home-and-home sweep as they improve to 5-7-0-1 on the year. Saskatoon-product Carter Sheryenko stopped 24 of 26 for his second victory in as many nights.

It was a defensive battle for the majority of the opening period until the Raiders struck first with just under two minutes to go.

Forward Reece Vitelli set up Stanick on a 2-on-1 who went high on Chadwick to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Saskatoon didn't find the scoresheet in the opening frame, but not for a lack of opportunity. Serhyenko, who made his second start against the Blades in as many nights, was flawless on nine shots in the opening 20.

In the second period, Prince Albert lit the lamp three times, beginning just 50 seconds into the frame on a Stanick penalty shot that beat Chadwick through the legs.

Chadwick made arguably the save of the night roughly five minutes later on a Raiders powerplay. Ozzy Wiesblatt was given a wide-open net with the Saskatoon-born 'tender down and out of position. The Sharks prospect tried going overtop of Chadwick, only to be denied by a desperation snag at the last second.

But crossing the midway mark, Wiesblatt set up Tyson Laventure who netted his first of the year to give the Raiders a commanding 3-0 lead, ending Chadwick's night.

Tyson Laventure notched his second of the night late in the frame to give the Raiders a 4-0 advantage after 40 minutes.

3:13 into the third, the Blades spoiled Serhyenko's bid for a shutout. Prince Albert was caught on a bad change and defenseman Ben Saunderson sent Belarusian import Egor Sidorov in alone and beat the Raiders netminder on a clear-cut breakaway.

The Raiders answered back shortly after. Stanick completed the hat-trick after a cross-ice pass from Laventure to make it 5-1.

Saskatoon added one more late in the game when captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere set up Robins for a quick snap-shot from the top of the left-hand circle that beat Serhyenko under the blocker. It was Robins eighth goal of the campaign, who retained sole possession of the league-lead in scoring.

Saskatoon now looks ahead to Tuesday night when they battle the Edmonton Oil Kings at SaskTel Centre.
