Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - The Americans wrapped up a home-and-home weekend with the Seattle Thunderbirds tonight. After a hard-fought 5-3 loss last night in Kennewick, the Americans were able to pickup a point tonight in Kent but their efforts fell short as they fell 4-3 in overtime.
On Friday Night in Kennewick, Parker Bell opened scoring with a power play goal. The early lead didn't hold for long. Midway through the first period Seattle scored a pair of power play goals, from Conner Roulette and Jared Davidson, in under a minute to take the lead. They added an even strength goal before the end of the period to carry a 3-1 lead into intermission.
Seattle's flurry of goals continued as Nico Myatovic scored a shorthanded goal for Thunderbirds early second period. Jake Sloan quickly replied for the Americans with a redirection on the power play, cutting Seattle's lead back down to two. Tri-City was unable to gain momentum as Reid Schaefer scored a fifth goal for Seattle just a minute later.
Parker Bell added one more goal later in the second period for his fist ever multi-goal game. The 2022 NHL Draft prospect leads the Americans in scoring with five goals and four assists.
Connor Bouchard had a pair of assists on Friday, reaching a milestone of 100 career points in the WHL.
2005-born defenseman Carter Savage made his WHL debut with the Americans. The six-foot-one and 177-pound native of Surrey, B.C. was selected 113th overall by the Ams in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
Nick Avakyan made his WHL debut on Saturday with his first ever WHL start in net. The 2004-born goaltender turned aside 49 of 52 shots faced.
The Americans have now scored first in their last four games. Tonight it was overage forward Connor Bouchard getting Tri-City on the board first with his first goal of the season.
Tri-City fell behind as Jordan Gustafson and Lucas Ciona scored giving Seattle a 2-1 first period lead.
Ethan Ernst replied with a shorthanded goal in the second period to tie the game. Ernst, recently acquired from the Kelowna Rockets, now has two goals in four games with the Americans.
Seattle took the lead once more midway through the third period with a goal from Reid Schaefer.
With just over five minutes remaining in the game, defenseman Marc Lajoie scored the tying goal with a wrist shot from the high slot. The goal is Lajoie's first of the season.
The game carried into overtime where Jordan Gustafson scored the winning goal 37 seconds into the extra frame for Seattle. Saturday was Tri-City's second overtime loss this season, both coming against Seattle.
The Americans will look to get back in the win column next Friday in Everett as they take on the Silvertips.
