Pats Crush Wheat Kings 6-1

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats blew out the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-1 on Saturday night to pick up their fourth consecutive victory.

The Pats are now 6-7-0 on the season, while the Wheat Kings drop to 5-9-0.

The Regiment were led by youngster Tanner Howe, who had a pair of goals and increased his point streak to three games (3G, 3A), but they also got production from various parts of their lineup, with Zack Stringer, Adam McNutt, Ryker Evans and Cole Carrier also chipping in with goals. Borya Valis also had a standout game, finishing with three assists.

Regina's power play stayed hot with another two goals (2-for-6). It has now gone 7-for-18 in the last four games (38.9%).

The Pats host the Red Deer Rebels next on the schedule on Wednesday night, which will be their annual Remembrance Day game!

THE GOALS

1st Period

REG 1-0 at 2:18 -Zack Stringer (6), assisted by Borya Valis (1) // A pass from the Wheat Kings at their own blue line ricocheted off the skate of Borya Valis and luckily went right to Stringer, who was already in behind the defence and had a clear path to the net. The Lethbridge, Alta. native fired a shot short side past the blocker of Carson Bjarnason to open the scoring.

REG 2-0 at 7:07 - Tanner Howe (3), assisted by Drew Englot (5) and Layton Feist (PPG) // A pretty play was finished off by Howe for a tap-in, after Englot fed an impressive back-door feed through his legs on the power play.

REG 3-0 at 16:11 - #22 Adam McNutt (1), assisted by Tom Cadieux (4) // Moments after Brandon hit the cross-bar, McNutt stepped out of the penalty box right when the puck came his way, giving the defenceman a breakaway. The Saskatoon native made no mistake, firing a shot past Bjarnason for his first goal as a Pat.

2nd Period

REG 4-0 at 10:55 - Ryker Evans (3), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (7) and Borya Valis (2) // Evans took the puck at the point from Valis, walked to the middle point and let a quick shot go towards the goal that beat Bjarnason with some traffic in front.

REG 5-0 at 13:05 - Tanner Howe (4), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (8) and Ryker Evans (11) // Svozil whipped a shot to the goal from the left point that was deflected in by Howe.

3rd Period

REG 6-0 at 6:48 - Cole Carrier (4), assisted by Borya Valis (3) and Zack Stringer (3) // Valis had a 2-on-1 with with Carrier and was able to centre a fed for an easy tap-in.

GOALTENDING BATTLE

Regina: Matthew Kieper stopped 21 of 22 for his fourth straight victory. He now has a 6-6 record this season, to go with a 2.76 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.

Brandon: Carson Bjarnason made 38 saves on 44 shots.

STAT OF THE NIGHT

10 - 10 different Pats had at least a point on Saturday, with five of them recording multi-point games: Evans (1G, 1A), Howe (2G), Stringer (1G, 1A), Svozil (2A) and Valis (3A).

THEY SAID IT

Assistant Coach Brad Herauf: "This is our most complete effort. Obviously we got some puck luck here, but I think we've been playing this way since the start of the year. For me it was good to see the kids not be frustrated and get rewarded for their hard work...We played a mature game in the third period. We didn't cheat to score more goals."

Defenceman Adam McNutt: "Everybody wants to win by more than two. Just the team bonding aspect of winning by a great number really brings [us] together...We worked really hard tonight; we worked within the system. That's what helped us get the 6-1 win tonight."
