Kalamazoo Wings News Release

LOVELAND - Led by a 46-save performance by goaltender Joel Martin, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Colorado Eagles 2-1 Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

A defensive first period led to neither team generating any offense. Kalamazoo came the closest to lighting the lamp, as Matt Caria had apparent goal waived off due to a hooking penalty on the forward.

Earning the game's first goal while killing off a penalty late in the second period, Jean Bourbeau (9th) scored from the left circle with a slap shot. The goal was Bourbeau's 50th in his ECHL career.

Caria (23rd) wouldn't be held off the score sheet, as the forward knocked in a Patrick Kennedy rebound 3:37 into the third period to push the K-Wings lead to two goals. The assist by Kennedy extended the forwards point streak to four games.

Colorado cut the deficit back to a single goal with a power-play goal from Darryl Bootland (16th). The younger brother of K-Wings head coach Nick Bootland tapped in a rebound 7:31 into the period.

Martin made 19 of his saves in the final period. Martin's 46 saves ties the team's ECHL record for saves in a game, which is held exclusively by him on five separate occasions.

Kalamazoo will conclude their four-game road trip tomorrow, Sunday, March 29th with a 3:05 p.m. (MDT) encounter against Colorado.

The K-Wings will return home on Friday, April 3rd with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Toledo Walleye on Karnival Night presented by the Airzoo. April 3rd will also be a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun!, featuring $3 beer, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs featuring Winter Sausage hot dogs and Harding's Friendly Markets buns.
