March 28, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, continued to add rookie talent, when they signed two players from Canisius College. Both forward Cody Freeman, and defenseman Chris Rumble are expected to make their professional hockey debuts in Saturday's game against Toledo.
Freeman played 130 games at Canisius College. He scored 33 goals for the Griffins in his four-year college career and has netted 10 or more in each of his last three campaigns. As a senior, Freeman ranked third at Canisius with 26 points. He holds the school record for post-season goals with 10 tallies.
On Oct. 14, Freeman received the NCAA's Second Star of the Week and Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week after a four-point weekend against AIC. Freeman has netted three game winning goals in each of his last two seasons. The 23-year-old played four seasons of junior hockey, posting his best campaign in 2010-11 when he scored 26 goals and passed out 26 assists in 57 games with the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL.
Freeman's father Mark played college hockey at Ohio State where he scored 58 goals and collected 135 points. Mark Freeman also played for the Winston Salem Thunderbirds, who would eventually win the first ever ECHL Championship.
Rumble played three years of college hockey at Canisius where he anchored the Griffins defense that ranked 12th in the country. As a junior, Rumble scored seven goals and added 13 assists. He earned a First-Team All Atlantic Hockey Selection as one of the top two defensemen in the conference.
In 84 college contests, Rumble potted 14 goals and dished out 32 helpers. His 46 points stands as the fifth highest total for Canisius blue liners. Before he embarked on his college journey, Rumble played two seasons with the Wenatchee Wild. With the Wild, the Virginian collected 40 points in 88 games. He also played one season of junior hockey with the Sioux Falls Stampede with IceMen forward Luke Greiner.
Rumble will try to reach the NHL like his father, Darren, did with the IceMen's NHL affiliate, the Ottawa Senators as well as the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Chris Rumble's hockey career fell into jeopardy when he was diagnosed with Leukemia and spent a year-and-a half away from the sport. Rumble battled his disease and won. Now with a clean bill of health, Rumble will begin his pro career with the IceMen.
