Evansville IceMen News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, gave the Toledo Walleye all they could handle in a hard fought game. Jarret Lukin had two assists for the IceMen to earn the 300th point of his career, but the first place Walleye escaped with a 3-2 win.

In the first period, the IceMen, gained an early lead. Joe Zarbo took a shot that Jeff Lerg turned away. In his first pro game, Cody Freeman picked up the rebound and torched it into the back of the net to give the IceMen a 1-0 lead. Freeman's first pro goal made him the sixth consecutive IceMen forward to score in his Evansville debut. Lukin earned the second assist on the power play strike from Freeman.

Toledo responded with a pair of goals of their own. Kyle Bonis batted one out of the air and across the line. Alden Hirschfeld got the Walleye's second goal on a puck that hung around the crease. Hirschfeld was the only player who found the biscuit and put it in to give the Walleye a 2-1 lead after one.

In the second period, Spencer Humphries launched a slap shot at the net. Lerg's save bounced out to Luke Greiner who fired in the game-tying goal. The tally was Greiner's second in as many games with the IceMen. He now has a goal in each of his last six games.

Lukin picked up his second assist of the night on Greiner's goal. The helper was Lukin's 300th professional point. The veteran has 12 points (two goals 10 assists) in 11 March games.

Once again, the Walleye answered, Bonis scored his second of the game on a power play to give Toledo a 3-2 lead going into the third period.

In the third period, each team had chances to get on the board. Both squads had 5-on-3 power plays, but both penalty kills stood strong.

With less than a minute to play the IceMen pulled Alex Vazzano in favor of the extra attacker. Evansville had a few chances, but the IceMen could not beat Lerg who made 34 saves to earn his 29th win. Vazzano stopped 37 pucks in just his second career start against the ECHL's second ranked offense.
