Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the third of three head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel hung on for a dramatic 3-2 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. With the win, the Fuel improved to 27-29-4-5 overall this season and with 63 points, remain alone in sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings. Indy's victory ended the Stingrays' ECHL-record 23-game winning streak and league-record 13-game road winning streak.
After a tight-checking start to the first period, the Fuel grabbed a 1-0 lead at 16:30 of the opening frame when Chris DeSousa wedged home a power-play score on feeds from Garett Bembridge and Mike Duco. After South Carolina's Jordan Binkley tied things up with his first professional goal at 19:50 of the first, back-to-back Indy tallies, from Justin Holl and Bembridge at 5:24 and14:15 of the second, gave the Fuel a 3-1 edge. Stingrays captain Andrew Rowe made things interesting with his 16th of the season at 18:43 of the middle frame, but after a scoreless third, the Fuel emerged 3-2 winners.
Mac Carruth made 35 saves in victory for the Fuel while Keegan Asmundson made 20 stops in defeat for South Carolina in the Minnesota native's professional debut.
