Eagles Shot Down by Martin, Wings, 2-1
March 28, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (39-22-3-3) fell to the Kalamazoo Wings (31-28-2-3), 2-1, despite recording 46 shots Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
Kalamazoo would start the scoring for a second straight night, this time coming on the penalty kill. Forward Jean Bourbeau came streaking down the left wing, then sniped his squad into the lead with 1:46 remaining in the second frame.
With a Wing laying on top of Eagles goaltender Jacob DeSerres, Kalamazoo forward Matt Caria scored on the wide-open net, giving the Wings a 2-0 lead 3:47 into the third. The Eagles refused to go away, as forward Darryl Bootland sat on his perch in the crease on the Eagles power play, as he stuffed home the rebound past Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin to bring the score to 2-1 with 12:29 remaining.
That score would be the final, as Kalamazoo wins the second game in as many nights in Colorado. Martin turned aside 45 of the Eagles 46 shots for the win, while DeSerres made 25 of 27 saves in his professional debut. The Eagles and Wings will conclude their three game series tomorrow in a 3:05 matinee showdown.
