Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - Joel Martin's brilliance resulted in 37 saves and 3-0 shutout for the Odessa Jackalopes over the Allen Americans on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Odessa becomes the first CHL team to reach 20 wins on the season with a 20-4-3 record.

The win is Martin's 11th of the season, and his first shutout in 2009-2010.

After a scoreless first period, which saw 27 combined shots on goal, the Jackalopes opened up the scoring when Kory Karlander banged home a rebound just 53 seconds into the second period. Dominic Leveille and Phil Plante recorded the assists on Karlander's ninth goal of the season. Jean Bourbeau then scored for Odessa at 8:30 on a turnover in the right circle of the Americans' zone. The unassisted goal was Bourbeau's fifth of the season, and it gave the Jackalopes a 2-0 lead entering the break.

In the third period, Kenny Bernard made it 3-0 for Odessa with an unassisted shorthanded goal. Bernard forced a turnover on the backcheck then skated into the right circle before wristing a shot past Chris Whitley at 11:04. The Americans were given a 5-on-3 power play in the closing minutes, pulled the goal for the extra skater, but could not find the scoresheet as Odessa preserved the shutout.

The Jackalopes and the Americans meet again on Tuesday at the Ector County Coliseum at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available by calling 432-552-7825.
