Reeder and Gardner Catapult Sundogs into Sixth Place with 4-1 Win
December 19, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Konrad Reeder and Kevin Gardner each collected a pair of goals and an assist and the Sundogs scored three unanswered goals in the game's first 24 minutes en route to a 4-1 win over the defending Central Hockey League Ray Miron President's Cup Champion Texas Brahmas Friday night.
Chris Bartolone and Linus Fagemo each collected a pair of assists in the win.
With the win, the Sundogs improve to 4-1-1 in their last six games and move into sixth place in the Southern Conference, leapfrogging the Amarillo Gorillas and Corpus Christi IceRays.
Arizona held Texas scoreless for nearly two periods before Anders Strome tallied his club's lone goal from Braden Walls and former Sundog Scott Thauwald with 6:13 to play in the second period.
Reeder opened scoring 8:33 into the contest, sneaking behind the Texas defense before collecting a pass from Fagemo.
Skating in alone, Reeder faked backhand before slipping the puck past Brett Jaeger to give his club an early 1-0 lead.
Picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone, Gardner stretched the Sundogs' lead to two with his first of two markers at 15:50, cutting across the front of the crease and reaching a forehand effort around the outstretched leg of Jaeger.
Referee Timm Walsh reviewed the goal with linesmen Jon Shaw and John Grandt and the goal judge for several minutes before confirming the score.
Backup netminder Joe Palmer replaced Jaeger with two and a half minutes to play in the opening frame.
Reeder pushed the score to 3-0 with his second of the game less than four minutes into the middle period, striding across the top of the slot before beating Palmer with a wrist shot, high glove side.
Credited with an assist on the Reeder tally, Gardner closed out scoring in the contest with his second goal and third point of the night, splitting the Texas defense and lifting a backhand over the glove of Palmer with 6:15 to play in the game.
Kyle McNulty picked up his second win of the season with 29 saves on 30 shots while Palmer allowed two goals on 21 shots in the relief appearance. Jaeger allowed two goals on 13 shots before leaving the game late in the first period.
Arizona was held scoreless on two man-advantage opportunities while Texas was unable to convert on six power-play chances.
The two teams square off again tomorrow at 7:05pm at Tim's Toyota Center. Tickets start at just $14 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
