Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Salt Lake City, UT - Justin Marks was strong through seven innings and was backed by three home runs as Omaha overpowered Salt Lake, 6-2, Saturday night in the opener of a four-game set at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Storm Chasers won for a ninth time in their last 10 games to improve to 58-57, climb over the .500 mark for the first time since May 20 and maintain their two-game edge over Memphis in the American Conference North Division. Quintin Berry dropped down a two-out bunt base hit, stole second base and scored on a Paulo Orlando single to get the scoring started in the second inning but the hosts responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-out, two-run double from John Hester to take a short-lived lead. Omaha got the game even in the third on a run-scoring ground out by Christian Colon that plated Gorkys Hernandez, who had singled, moved to second base on a bunt single by Irving Falu and to third base after a throwing error on the play by Salt Lake starter Matt Shoemaker.
The visitors regained the lead for good in the fourth when Manny Pina belted a two-out, two-run home run, his first with Omaha this season, and finished their scoring in the next inning when Brian Fletcher and Ben Broussard slammed back-to-back long balls. Shoemaker was charged with all six runs, five earned, over five frames during which he surrendered nine hits, walked one and struck out five.
Marks yielded a pair of runs on only two hits, none after the second inning, while walking three and striking out a season-high nine to register his fifth win as a member of the Storm Chasers. Francisley Bueno tossed two shutout frames in relief to sew up Omaha's seventh straight road win and help bring an end to the Bees 10-game home winning streak.
The series continues Sunday afternoon with Omaha right-hander Yordano Ventura taking the mound against Salt Lake righty Jarrett Grube. Coverage of the game gets underway at 1:4 5 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
