Brandon Laird drives in seven runs as Oklahoma City beats Colorado Springs, 24-5

Oklahoma City - A grand slam by Jon Singleton and three-run homer from Brandon Laird fueled the Oklahoma City RedHawks early in a historic 24-5 win Saturday against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in front of 9,819 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks (65-50) set the record for the most runs scored in a game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and tied the club record for most runs scored in a game overall. Oklahoma City matched their run total from a 24-4 win June 22, 2004 at Albuquerque.

Their 24 runs scored also marked the second-highest run total in a PCL game this season. Tacoma scored 25 runs in a May 29 game at Colorado Springs.

RedHawks third baseman Brandon Laird drove in seven runs, the most RBIs in a single game by a RedHawks player since Gregorio Petit recorded eight RBIs on two grand slams in a June 22, 2010 game at New Orleans. Laird went 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits and scored two runs.

Singleton went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. His grand slam in the first inning was the third of the season for the RedHawks, and first for the team since May 21.

Oklahoma City outfielder George Springer, who hit a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning, finished the night 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a game-high five runs scored.

The RedHawks won a ninth-straight game, tying a club record for consecutive wins, to hold on to sole possession of first place in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division.

The RedHawks compiled a season-high 20 hits as they opened a four-game series with Colorado Springs (56-56). The Sky Sox committed five errors, leading to 14 unearned runs against the pitching staff.

Oklahoma City scored five runs in the first inning and built an 8-0 lead through two innings. The RedHawks scored 16 unanswered runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings before a solo home run by Sky Sox outfielder Kent Matthes in the top of the ninth ended the streak.

The margin of victory in Saturday's game is the second-highest in RedHawks history, behind the 24-4 win in Albuquerque during the 2004 season.

RedHawks relief pitcher Eric Berger (4-3) got the win, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. Sky Sox starter, and former RedHawk, Armando Galarraga (0-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings pitched.

Oklahoma City continues a four-game series against Colorado Springs at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Kids can run the bases after the game.
