Tucson Padres News Release
Cody Decker's three-run triple in the ninth helped the Tucson Padres to an 8-5 victory over the Nashville Sounds Sunday at Greer Stadium. The victory was the Padres third of the season when trailing after eight innings.
Eugenio Velez's single to right field in the first brought around Kentrail Davis to put Nashville ahead 1-0. Sean Halton followed Velez with a sacrifice fly for the Sounds second run in the opening inning. Tucson got on the board in the third on a Nashville error that brought home Jaff Decker from second base.
Back-to-back opposite-field doubles from Scott Moore and Chris Robinson tied the score at two in the top of the fourth. The Padres scored two more runs in the inning on RBI hits from Decker and Dean Anna to go up 4-2. Decker finished the night with 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. The Sounds regained the lead in the fifth on Hunter Morris' three-run homer, his 21st of the season. The Padres rallied for four runs in the ninth on Decker's fifth triple of the season and Robinson's RBI bunt single.
Reliever Miles Mikolas earned the win with two scoreless innings to close out the game, while the Sounds' Brent Leach was charged with the loss. Brad Boxberger kept the Padres in the game by striking out five of the six batters he faced in two relief innings, increasing his season strikeout total to 77, compared to only 18 walks. Nashville starter Johnny Hellweg pitched five innings and allowed multiple earned runs for the first time since May 21.
Next Game: Monday, 5:05 p.m. at Nashville (Brewers affiliate) - Tucson LHP Robbie Erlin (6-3, 5.17) vs. Nashville RHP Jimmy Nelson (2-4, 3.47). Game coverage begins at 4:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
