Lexington Legends News Release

Tommy Manzella, a South Atlantic League All-Star with the Lexington Legends in 2006 who made his major league debut with the Houston Astros in 2009, has been elected to the Legends Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will take place Saturday, September 3 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark before the Legends play the Savannah Sand Gnats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Hall of Fame ceremony will begin at 6:45.

Manzella batted .275 with 22 doubles, seven homers, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 99 games with Lexington. He batted .319 in the month of May, .313 in June, and finished strong with a .327 mark in August. He had five three-hit games and went four-for-four at Lakewood June 14. An outstanding fielder, he participated in 57 double plays with the Legends.

Manzella is currently with the triple-A Reno Aces in the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization.

"After 11 successful years, the tradition and history of the Lexington Legends have become a part of the fabric of Central Kentucky," said Legends' President and CEO Alan Stein. "Over 40 former Legends players have played in the major leagues. We are honored to include Tommy Manzella, a terrific player and an even better person, into the Lexington Legends Hall of Fame."

"Tommy did a great job on the field as a Legend, and was a very popular player with fans," said Legends' General Manager Andy Shea. "He represented the team well, and is very deserving of membership in the Legends Hall of Fame."

Manzella was chosen from among 10 nominees in voting online and at Whitaker Bank Ballpark during Legends home games in the first half of the season.
