Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 30, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are one of four teams in the South Atlantic League to have at least two players named to the 2011 Annual All-Star Team. Dan Black was named the All-Star first baseman while Brady Shoemaker, who also played in the league's All- Star Game in June before being promoted to A-Advanced Winson-Salem, was selected as the utility outfielder.
Shoemaker, 24, will set a new Intimidators franchise record with a . 319 (119-373) batting average in 2011 (minimum 2.7 PA/team game), which still ranks him third highest in the South Atlantic League. At the time he was promoted to Winston-Salem on July 27, he led the SAL with 119 hits and was the only player in the league to have played in every game for his team. He was also second in the league with 68 runs scored, tied for second in the league with 28 doubles, third in total bases (184), fourth in batting average (.319, 119-373), and tied for fourth with 65 RBI. The White Sox drafted Shoemaker in the 19th round of the 2009 draft out of Indiana State University, and he earned Appalachian League All-Star Team honors in 2009.
Black, 24, has already set a new Intimidators franchise record with a league-high 41 doubles, and his league-leading 97 RBI have him in position to threaten the franchise record of 102. He currently leads the South Atlantic League with 142 hits, batting .292 (142-487) with six games left in 2011. Black also leads the league in extra- base hits (64) and total bases (247) and is second in the league with 129 games played through Aug. 30. The White Sox selected Black in the 14th round of the 2009 draft out of Purdue, where he led the Boilermakers in home runs in 2008 and 2009.
Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is located off I-85 at exit 63. The Intimidators begin their final home stand of the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 1, against the Grasshoppers.
