Gattis Named to SAL Annual Team

Rome, GA - Eric Krupa, President of the South Atlantic League, announced the selection of the 2011 Annual All-Star Team. The All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team's Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters.

Rome's Evan Gattis joins the team after an outstanding season so far and being named the SAL Player of the Week twice in 2011. Gattis is currently hitting .322 (leads the league) with 22 home runs and 71 RBI.

The Annual All-Star Team was highlighted by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player. Shawn Sanford of the Augusta GreenJackets was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher. Sanford has a 10-9 record and an 2.47 ERA in 29 games. Bryce Harper, outfielder for the Hagerstown Suns, was chosen as the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect. Harper batted .318 with 82 hits and 14 home runs in 72 games before being promoted to Harrisburg in the Eastern League. Hickory Crawdads shortstop Jurickson Profar was selected as the Most Valuable Player. Profar is batting .285 with 11 home runs and 61 RBIs in 109 games.
