Lexington Legends News Release
The Lexington Legends broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the seventh inning and went on to beat the West Virginia Power 4-2 Tuesday night in Charleston.
The Legends broke on top with two runs in the first inning. With two outs, Domingo Santana singled and Telvin Nash walked. Mike Kvasnicka drilled a double into the gap in left center field, scoring both runners.
The 2-0 lead stood until the bottom of the fifth. Back-to-back doubles by Elias Diaz and Kevin Mort produced one run. Eric Avila grounded out, but Drew Maggi doubled, scoring Mort with the tying run.
The score remained 2-2 until the seventh. Roberto Pena led off with a single and advanced to second on Bryce Lane's ground out. Pena went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Delino DeShields Jr. DeShields stole third, his team-leading 30th steal of the year, and scored on a two-out single by Domingo Santana to give the Legends their final margin.
Alex Sogard (2-4) was the winning pitcher. He worked four and one-third innings in relief after replacing starter Ruben Alaniz with two outs in the fourth inning. Brooks Pounders (5-5),who pitched the sixth and seventh innings for West Virginia, was the loser. Jorge DeLeon pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 15th save.
The Legends return home to close out the season. They will open a five-game series against Savannah Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. Following the game, fans are invited to stay and watch the Kentucky-Western Kentucky football game on screens throughout the park, including the outfield video boards.
