Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - It was a beautiful Tuesday night at the Jersey Shore, and the Lakewood BlueClaws made it a memorable ending to their 2011 at home. Lakewood (34-30) split a doubleheader with the Hickory Crawdads (39-26) in the final two regular season games of 2011 at FirstEnergy Park. Hickory took game 1 by a score of 4-3, but in game 2 Lakewood bounced back with a walk off 3-2 win in their final game in 2011 in front of the home crowd.

Game 1 saw the BlueClaws limited to just 3 hits in the game, all coming in their 3 run 2nd inning. Hickory starter Nicholas Tepesch was fantastic over 7 innings allowing just those 3 hits and 3 runs/2 earned. Lakewood's starter Jesse Biddle left after 4.1 innings with an apparent knee injury. No word yet on his status.

The BlueClaws blew a 2-0 lead in the top of the 7th inning in game 2, but walked off winners in the bottom of the 7th on a throwing error on Hickory 2B Alejandro Selen. Jim Murphy hurt his hand with runners on 1st and 2nd only 1 out, and Cameron Rupp came in to pinch hit for him. Rupp grounded to 2B, Selen stepped on second to force out Carlos Alonso, and then threw low to 1B allowing Bill Rice to score from 2B and win it for the BlueClaws.

It was a fantastic, dramatic ending to the 2011 campaign at home for Lakewood. The BlueClaws are off on Wednesday, and will hit the road and head to Hagerstown, MD to take on the Hagerstown Suns for their final 5 games of the season. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Thursday.
