Manitoba Moose Recap: Cleveland 5 at Manitoba 1
December 9, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (11-9-1-1) and Cleveland Monsters (10-11-1-1) matched up for the third time this season on Friday night. The teams traded powerplay opportunities in the first with neither finding success until Cleveland broke through 14:08 into the contest. Daniel Zaar fired a slap shot from the point that found the back of the net behind a screened Eric Comrie. Zaar's tally went as the lone marker of the frame with the Monsters carrying a 1-0 lead to the break. The Monsters added to their lead in the late stages of the second period. Back on the powerplay, Cleveland worked the puck to Alex Broadhurst who wired the puck into the net with 4:42 left in the period. That set the stage for Ryan Craig to do some damage. The Monsters' captain scored twice, 2:02 apart to push the visitors' lead to 4-0 after forty minutes. The Moose got onto the scoreboard in the third courtesy of their young guns. Kyle Connor worked the puck down low, fending off some Cleveland defenders. He then sent the puck in front of the net where Jack Roslovic was waiting to pop in Manitoba's first of the night with 11 minutes left. The Moose couldn't close the gap further and Cleveland added one more, shorthanded, off the stick of Markus Hannikainen. The Monsters took round one of the back-to-back, 5-1. Quick Hits
* Kyle Connor made his Manitoba Moose debut after being re-assigned by the Winnipeg Jets.
* Jack Roslovic took over the Moose goal-scoring lead with his eighth of the season.
* Dan DeSalvo's point streak ended at six games with eight points (5G, 3A) over that span.
* Game attendance was announced at 5,541.
Quotable Head Coach Pascal Vincent - "Obviously we would like to see a response (tomorrow) and we'll talk to the players about it. I felt it was different tonight, I felt that tonight it was about supporting the puck and winning puck battles. I felt that you have a player like Kyle Connor and sometimes there's that effect of thinking that it's going to be easier, but it's not and it wasn't. We were hoping for that magic play or that magic goal that, you know, highlight kind of play. It doesn't happen that way. We'll adjust tomorrow and see what's going to happen."
