Cleveland Monsters News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Manitoba Moose on Friday at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB by a final score of 5-1. With the win, the Monsters improved to 10-11-1-1 overall this season and with a .478 points percentage, currently sit alone in fifth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After a tight-checking opening frame slid by mostly scoreless, the Monsters claimed a 1-0 lead on the power-play at 15:16 when Daniel Zaar blasted home a left-point clapper thanks to a slick setup by Cleveland d-man Dean Kukan. In the middle frame, the Monsters seized firm control of the contest with three unanswered goals, from Alex Broadhurst on the power-play at 15:18, fed by John Ramage and T.J. Tynan, at even-strength at 17:33 from Ryan Craig, thanks to Tynan's lone assist, and again from Craig at 19:35 courtesy of Broadhurst's and Kukan's five-on-five feeds.

Up 4-0 entering the third, Cleveland saw their shutout hopes melt away at 8:59 of the final frame when Moose leading scorer Jack Roslovic scored at even-strength to make it 4-1, but Markus Hannikainen parlayed an unassisted shorthanded breakaway at 11:09 into a 5-1 Monsters lead and ultimately, a Cleveland victory by that very margin.

Anton Forsberg improved to 7-6-1 in net for the Monsters this season by virtue of a 34-save performance while Eric Comrie fell to 6-7-1 between the pipes for the Moose despite stopping 31 of the 36 pucks he faced. With a two-for-five showing on the power-play on Friday, the Monsters are five for their last eight with the extra skater and with Friday's two-goal performance, Craig has now scored each of his four goals this season vs. Manitoba at MTS Centre.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday afternoon rematch vs. the Moose with full coverage, live from MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB, underway at 3:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
