Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - - The Providence Bruins defeated the Toronto Marlies 5-3 Friday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center behind two goals from Peter Cehlarnik and goals apiece from Jake DeBrusk, Colton Hargrove and Sean Kuraly. Zane McIntyre got the start in the net for a P-Bruins team that has now taken points in 10 straight games, the longest active streak in the AHL.
There weren't many scoring chances for either team in the first, but Providence took advantage of the one opportunity they had late in the period. DeBrusk skated up the left side to the dot and fired a wrist shot by Karri Ramo at 15:22 for his fourth of the year to make things 1-0 Bruins. Jordan Szwarz picked up an assist as did Noel Acciari, who was playing in his first game with Providence this season after being sidelined with a lower body injury suffered earlier in the year with Boston.
Providence extended the lead to 2-0 7:35 seconds into period number two. Cehlarnik, in his first game back from injury, took the rebound off a Colby Cave shot and fired it into the open net. Danton Heinen received the secondary assist on Cehlarnik's first goal of the night. Toronto cut the lead to 2-1 just 40 seconds later on a Byron Froese goal, but Providence would respond while on the power play at 16:23. After a Wayne Simpson shot could not be cleared out by the Marlies, Hargrove snuck his fourth goal of the season in the crease to put Providence back up by two. Matt Grzelcyk also picked up an assist on the play as the P-Bruins entered the second intermission up 3-1.
Cehlarnik tallied his second goal of the night and team leading tenth of the season 13:28 into the final period. Off a pass from Peter Mueller, Chris Casto took a shot from the point which was saved, but Cehlarnik took that rebound and backhanded it into the net to give Providence a 4-1 lead. Toronto made it close with two late goals, including one with the goalie pulled, but an empty net goal for Sean Kuraly iced a 5-3 P-Bruins win.
McIntyre stopped 27 of 30 shots while Ramo stopped 18 of 22. The Bruins were 1-4 on the power play and killed off the only penalty they had. Providence travels to Albany tomorrow night and return home Sunday at 3:05 against Hartford for the conclusion of their Toy Drive Weekend.
