IceCaps Top Thunderbirds 6-5 During Teddy Toss

ST. JOHN'S, NL - Stefan Matteau scored the game-winner in a goal-fest as the St. John's IceCaps topped the Thunderbirds 6-5 during Teddy Toss night at Mile One Centre.

St. John's potted two quick goals from Charles Hudon (from Dan Audette and Chris Terry) and Joel Hanley (from Stefan Matteau) to give the IceCaps an early lead.

Springfield answered with two straight tallies from Anthony Greco and Eric Robinson to tie it up, before IceCaps' Chris Terry potted his ninth of the season to finish off the first period with an IceCaps 3-2 lead.

The Thunderbirds came our strong in the second, scoring two in a row from Dryden Hunt and Ryan Horvat. The IceCaps rallied with a tally from captain Max Friberg, assisted by Mark Barberio and Jacob de la Rose.

The third period started with a go-ahead goal from Shane Harper to give Springfield the lead. Michael McCarron scored just over halfway through the frame to tie it up. Matteau picked up his second point of the night with the game-winner just under a minute later.

Yann Danis stopped 25-of-30 shots in the win; while T-Birds netminder Mike McKenna stopped 32-of-38 for the visitors.
