Tacoma Rainiers News Release
The Rainiers return to Tacoma for a four game weekend homestand against Portland tonight, Thursday, July 10. Join us at the ballpark for a series packed with great promotions!
We kick it off on THURSDAY with another News Tribune Dollar Deal Thursday. Once in the stadium fans will find great deals: $1 hot dogs, $1 sodas, $1 beer and $1 ice cream. Plus the News Tribune has coupons for $1 off adult ticket prices! Game time is 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 5:30 p.m. Ken Cloude will pitch for Tacoma against Portland's Clay Condrey. Note: all $1 beers must be purchased and consumed in a designated beer garden area.
FRIDAY means FIREWORKS! July 11 is our annual General Mills Salute to Armed Forces presented by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. Members of the military can find free general admission tickets on their base. Then after the game it is Friday Night Fireworks presented by Click! Network. Join us for this great 7:05 p.m. game. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. so try to get here early for the best seats. Rett Johnson is scheduled to pitch for Tacoma against the Beavers Mike Bynum.
We have a great giveaway on SATURDAY for the first 1,500 fans. Columbia Bank is sponsoring Six-Pack/Lunch Bag Coolers that look fantastic and are great for keeping food or drinks cold. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for this 7:05 p.m. game, the third in the series against Portland. Tacoma's Brian Falkenborg (3-2, 3.21 ERA) is scheduled to pitch against Dennis Tankersley.
The short homestand concludes with a double promotion on SUNDAY, JULY 13. The first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a Baby Ruth Souvenir Baseball. Then for the dog lovers out there it is our annual Dog Days of Summer game. Fans are encouraged to bring your dog to the ballpark! Each year we have several hundred dogs and it is a lot of fun for everyone, even if you don't have a dog to join you. Sunday is also Shari's Hardball Bingo and fans will receive Baby Ruth candy bars as they leave the game. Game time is 1:35 p.m. and gates open at noon on Sunday. Scheduled pitchers are Craig Anderson (6-9, 3.96 ERA) for Tacoma and Brian Tollberg for Portland.
The Rainiers then take a break for the All-Star game and a road trip to Albuquerque and Omaha before returning for an eight game homestand July 25. Included in that homestand are fireworks, baseball card day, Freddy Garcia Bobble Head Dolls, T-Shirts and free Mega Millions lottery tickets!
In other Rainiers news, catcher Pat Borders will represent the Rainiers in the Triple-A All-Star game July 16 in Memphis. Pat currently leads the Rainiers with a .322 batting average, a .368 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage.
Since his promotion from San Antonio, pitcher Rett Johnson has had no problem adjusting to Triple-A baseball. In four starts he has compiled a 3-1 record, a 0.73 ERA, and has struck out 19 batters in 24.2 innings. For a profile on Johnson, click here. Johnson next pitches here Friday, July 11.
While the Rainiers are out of town, remember that other events sometimes occur at the ballpark. Next week the circus comes to Cheney Stadium. There will be performances at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on both Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18. Adult tickets are $14 each. Children are free with a voucher that can be found ahead of time at Cheney Stadium and local businesses. (Free children's tickets will not be available on the days of the performances so get them early.)
