METAIRIE— Mike Wood pitched seven innings allowing one run to lead the Sacramento River Cats (59-36) over the New Orleans Zephyrs (51-43) 2 to1 on Thursday Night at Zephyr Field.

The Zephyrs scored a run in the fourth off Wood as Raul Chavez singled with one out advanced to second on an Alan Zinter single and scored on a base hit from Tripp Cromer. The River Cats would score both their runs in the eighth as Mike Rose led off the inning with his third home run of the season off Zephyrs reliever Rob Stanifer. Brian Sellier would single and advance to second on a sacrifice from Esteban German. Mike Venafro would relieve Stanifer and toss a wild pitch to allow Sellier to advance to third.

Former Zephyr Chris Prieto would hit a ground ball to second baseman Tripp Cromer, but Sellier would beat the throw at the plate and put the River Cats ahead 2 to1. Chad Harville would pitch a perfect ninth for his 15th save of the season. Wood (6-1) picked up the win pitching seven innings allowing five hits, one run while striking out five. Stanifer (4-1) suffered the loss pitching 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs. Zephyr starter Ken Vining pitched well pitching five shutout innings allowing only two hits.

The series with the River Cats resumes on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Free Car Friday with Post Game Fireworks courtesy of Bohn Brothers Toyota and Coca Cola. D.J. Houlton (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and Chris Enochs (3-1, 4.58) for the River Cats.
