Round Rock Express News Release

On paper, Thursday's match up between the Round Rock Express and the San Antonio Missions looked one-sided. The Missions were throwing their ace and the Express had to turn to an emergency fill in.

Fortunately for Round Rock, though, games aren't played on paper.

The Express manufactured a pair of runs in the truest sense and Tim McClaskey turned in a remarkable performance to give Round Rock a much needed 2-1 win in front of 10,283 at The Dell Diamond.

San Antonio matched McClaskey with Clint Nageotte, one of the best prospects in the Texas League and third in the League in earned run average. Nageotte was very impressive, but wildness in the third cost him. He walked Chris Burke to load the bases and then John Tamargo to force in a run and give the Express a 1-0 lead.

McClaskey then danced his way through the San Antonio order, retiring 17 straight at one point. He ran into trouble, however, in the seventh when Chris Snelling tripled and came home on A.J. Zapp's game tying single.

The bottom half of the inning, though, Round Rock got it back – without the benefit of a hit. Gavin Wright reached on a throwing error by Jose Lopez and came home two batters later on a second Lopez throwing error.

McClaskey (3-0) was rewarded for his work with the win, Gustavo Martinez (4-2) took the loss and Jory Coughenour made a triumphant return to Round Rock with his first save. The crucial four-game series is now tied 1-1, with the Express four games behind the Missions. The series will continue Friday at 7:05 p.m., with Jeff Kent of the Houston Astros expected to play.
