Triple-A All-Star Game to be Televised

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The Sixteenth Annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live across the ESPN2 network on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. central time. The 2003 Game, to be played at AutoZone Park, home of the Pacific Coast League's Memphis Redbirds, marks the sixth consecutive season teams representing the International and Pacific Coast Leagues have faced off in the mid-season event.

2003 marks the ninth consecutive season Triple-A Baseball's mid-summer classic has been televised live on ESPN2. Launched in October of 1993, ESPN2 now reaches 84 million homes. The network provides coverage of a wide range of sports including Major League Baseball, the NBA, NHL, NCAA baseball/basketball/football, World Cup & Major League Soccer, auto racing, boxing, golf, tennis and the X Games & Winter X Games.

ESPN's Bob Carpenter will handle play-by-play duties for his fifth Triple-A All-Star Game. He will be joined by ESPN baseball analyst Buck Martinez in the booth and field reporter Lesley Swanson.

Since embarking on his broadcasting career in 1976 as the play-by-play voice of the Triple-A Tulsa Oilers, Bob Carpenter has covered a variety of sports for several networks. The St. Louis native has called Major League Games for his hometown Cardinals, as well as the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and Minnesota Twins. While at ESPN, Carpenter has established himself as one of the network's most versatile announcers, having done play-by-play for NCAA baseball/basketball/football and World Cup Soccer, in addition to his work on Wednesday Night Baseball. The 50-year-old Carpenter has also covered The Masters (golf), U. S. Open tennis and boxing for the USA Network. Carpenter previously worked the 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2002 Triple-A All-Star Games.

Former Major League catcher Buck Martinez is currently in his eleventh season as an analyst on ESPN's Wednesday night Major League Baseball telecasts. He has been with ESPN continuously since 1992, except for the 2001 campaign, in which he managed the Toronto Blue Jays to an 80-82 record in his only season as a Major League skipper. In addition to his work at ESPN, the 54-year-old currently calls televised games for the Baltimore Orioles on Comcast SportsNet. He also has radio experience, covering the World Series, ALCS, and Major League All-Star Game for the Telemundo Radio Network from 1982-88. Martinez played for Kansas City, Milwaukee, and Toronto during an 18-year Major League career (1969-86).

Field Reporter Lesley Swanson joined ESPN in 2003 after serving as a production assistant for the network from 1999-2000. During her prior work at ESPN, Swanson contributed to several marquee events, including the 1999 ESPY Awards, 1999 All-Star Home Run Derby, 1999 X Games, ESPN 20th Anniversary program and the 2000 ESPY Awards. She has also performed voice-overs for the X Games and ESPN's Sunday Night Football.
