EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that right-handed pitchers T.J. Tucker and Sun Woo Kim were optioned from the Montreal Expos. The club also announced that the Expos recalled right-handed pitcher Britt Reames and purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Eric Knott. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 23 players; 11 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders, plus three players (right-handed pitcher Jose Colon, left-handed pitcher Scott Downs and right-handed pitcher Bo Donaldson) on the disabled list.
Tucker, 24, was 0-1, 5.96 (45.1 IP - 30 ER) in 33 appearances (one start) for the Expos. In 2002, he went 6-3, 4.11 (61.1 IP - 28 ER) in 57 relief appearances with Montreal. The native of Clearwater, Florida was originally selected by Montreal in the first round of the 1997 draft (47th overall) as the third of three compensation picks for free agent Mel Rojas. Tucker began the season with a career major league record of 6-4 in 59 appearances (two starts) with a 4.87 ERA (68.1 IP - 37 ER).
Kim, 25, was 0-1, 8.36 (14.0 IP - 13 ER) in four appearances (three starts) with the Expos. He is 5-4, 4.13 (72.0 IP - 33 ER) in 12 starts with the Trappers this season. Kim split the 2002 season between four clubs, going 2-0, 7.45 (29.0 IP - 24 ER) in 15 appearances (two starts) with the Boston Red Sox, 1-0, 0.89 (20.1 IP - 2 ER) in four appearances (three starts) with the Expos, 4-2, 3.18 (45.1 IP - 16 ER) in eight starts with Triple-A Pawtucket and 3-0, 1.24 (43.2 IP - 6 ER) in seven starts with Triple-A Ottawa. The Expos acquired Kim, along with right-handed pitcher Seung Song from the Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Cliff Floyd on July 30, 2002. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Red Sox on January 15, 1998. Kim began the season with a career minor league record of 45-32 in 112 appearances (104 starts) with a 4.81 ERA (614.1 IP - 328 ER).
Reames, 29, was 3-10, 5.56 (77.2 IP - 48 ER) in 18 appearances (13 starts) for the Trappers this season. In 2002, Reames went 1-4, 5.03 (68 IP - 38 ER) in 42 appearances (six starts) with the Expos and 3-2, 2.79 (42.0 IP - 13 ER) with Triple-A Ottawa. The native of Seneca, South Carolina was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 17th round of the 1995 draft. He went a combined 1-0, 0.98 (9.2 IP - 1 ER) in four relief appearances with St. Louis in the 2000 National League Division Series and Championship Series, earning a win against Atlanta in the Division Series. Reames was acquired by Montreal with third baseman Fernando Tatis on December 14, 2000 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dustin Hermanson and left-handed pitcher Steve Kline. Reames began the season with a career major league record of 7-13, 4.86 (203.2 IP - 110 ER) in 91 appearances (26 starts). Knott, 28, was 5-5, 4.40 (75.2 IP - 37 ER) in 22 appearances (10 starts) with the Trappers this season. Knott spent last season with Triple-A Tucson, where he went 8-10, 4.86 (150 IP - 81 ER) in 31 appearances (23 starts) with the Sidewinders. The native of Harvey, Illinois made three appearances (one start) with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001, going 0-1, 1.93 (4.2 IP - 1 ER). He was originally selected by Arizona in the 24th round of the 1996 draft. He was released by the Diamondbacks and signed by Chiba (Japan) on June 12, 2000 before re-signing with Arizona on November 25, 2000. Montreal signed Knott to a minor league contract on December 20, 2002. The next Trapper home game will be on Thursday, July 10 when the club will take on the Fresno Grizzlies. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
